Benefits of Spin Class

If you've never taken a spin class, now is the time. Indoor cycling is both challenging and exhilarating. There are so many benefits to spinning.

Cardiovascular

Spinning is a great way to improve cardiovascular health. It is similar to running and swimming as a form of cardio. It is ideal for people who want a cardio workout without putting too much stress on their joints.

Burns Calories

Depending on the difficulty and duration of the class, you can burn 400-600 calories a class. To see weight loss, you would have to attend class 4-6 times per week.

Balance

Riding a stationary bike in spin class reduces your risk of injury and makes you less prone to falls. This is a safer activity for those who have balance issues.

Muscles Used

* Core - Your core is used to not only stabilize your body during your ride but it helps with balance on the bike while standing.

* Upper Body - Your upper body supports your weight when you are in an aerodynamic position on the bike riding.

* Back - When in a seated position, sitting tall in the saddle strengthens your back muscles.

* Glutes - You use your glutes with every rotation of the peddles; especially when you raise the tension on the bike to imitate an uphill ride.

* Quadriceps - These are the main muscles used in spin class.

* Hamstrings - Spinning helps to strengthen and loosen your hamstrings as well as stabilize your joints with each spin of the pedal.

* Lower Legs - Spinning protects your feet and ankles by working your calf muscles.

There are a lot of different types of spin classes, such as speed, endurance or power. Try all of them. All have multiple benefits and require very little equipment. And as a bonus, weather is never an excuse not to ride!
